Bio

Leah Petermeier, APRN, CNP, was born and raised in Minnesota and chose to join Essentia Health due to its excellent reputation. She looks forward to serving the community of Duluth, MN, a place she has frequently visited for activities such as hiking and kayaking in Lake Superior. 

Throughout her life, Leah has developed strong personal and professional ties to the region. Her frequent travels to Duluth for outdoor activities have made her familiar with the area and its community. 

Leah has always been fascinated by neurosurgery. Her journey began in nursing school, where she completed an internship on a neurosurgical floor. After graduating, Leah worked as a registered nurse on the same unit for about a year before transferring to the Neuro ICU, where she spent five years. For nearly the past five years, she has been working as a nurse practitioner in Neurosurgery. 

Within her practice, Leah has a special interest in skull base neurosurgery, cranial trauma, critical care, and spine. She is passionate about her field and believes that the needs of the patient come first and is committed to providing quality, patient-centered neurosurgical care to the Duluth community. 

Leah moved to Duluth, MN, with her mini-goldendoodle, Cooper. As the oldest of five siblings, her family resides in west central Minnesota and Minneapolis. 

In her free time, Leah enjoys traveling, having visited over 15 different countries. She also loves hiking, kayaking, reading, practicing yoga, and enjoying coffee.
