For patients who don’t need to be hospitalized, but aren’t ready to go home, we have the only transitional care unit within a hospital in the Twin Ports.We’re a Level IV Trauma Center and 25-bed critical access hospital in Superior, Wisconsin. You'll find us in the same building as Essentia Health St. Mary’s-Superior Clinic next to the Twin Ports VA Clinic off Tower Avenue. As one of Essentia Health’s Catholic facilities, we strive to provide holistic healing for all human life.

Inpatient Vs. Outpatient Hospital Services

If you have a test or procedure performed at a hospital but are not admitted, you’re an outpatient. Common outpatient procedures may include X-rays, labs, and emergency room visits. If your doctor admits you to the hospital for an overnight stay, you’re typically an inpatient.One exception to this is if your doctor places you on observation status.
