What's a Podiatrist?
A podiatrist is doctor with specialized training in the diagnosis and treatment of foot and ankle conditions. Some Essentia podiatrists are also certified in wound care and specialize in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers and other foot sores.

Conservative Foot Care
Whenever possible, your treatment starts with conservative, nonsurgical services, such as:
- Casts and braces – Protect an injured foot or ankle and keep it still so it can heal
- Custom-made orthotics – Pain-relieving shoe inserts designed just for your feet
- Physical therapy – Exercises that help the foot or ankle move better, gain strength, and feel more comfortable
- Steroid injections – Deliver medicine directly to a painful spot in the foot
If conservative care isn’t right for your condition, your podiatrist may perform surgery.
