All of Us Research Program
All of Us is a large research program. The goal is to help researchers understand more about why people get sick or stay healthy.
We hope that one million or more people will join. People who join will give us information about their health, habits, what it’s like where they live. By looking for patterns in this information, researchers may learn more about what affects people’s health.
The program will last for 10 years or more. This will allow researchers to study health over time.
Essentia Health is an enrollment partner of the All of Us Research Program. You do not have to be an Essentia Health patient to join the research program.
Become Our Partner
The All of Us Research Program is dedicated to better health, both in the future and today. Together, we can help make a difference by speeding up research and improving the health of our communities.
Get Started
Anyone 18 years or older can participate. You do not have to be an Essentia Health patient to enroll. People of every race, ethnicity, sex, gender, and sexual orientation are welcome. You can be healthy, or you can have a long-term health issue. There are no limits to taking part based on your health status.
Currently, we are unable to enroll people who are in prison, unable to consent on their own, under 18 or do not live in the United States.
Steps to Enroll
1. Create an Account
Create your account at JoinAllofUs.org/Essentia. You will need to provide your name and email address or phone number to enroll.
If you need help using the computer, or don’t have a computer at home, our research team can assist you! Please call us at 877-340-8058 to schedule a free enrollment visit with one of our staff.
2. Give Your Consent
Now that you have an account, All of Us will ask you to give your consent. You will watch a series of videos, which give you more details about the program. They describe all the types of information you may be asked to give. If you are ready to give your consent, you will electronically sign the consent form.
3. Agree to Share Your Electronic Health Record (EHR)
All of Us will also ask you to share your electronic health record (EHR). Sharing your EHR is your choice. If you decide not to share your EHR, you can still answer our health surveys. But you will not be asked to take part in some other parts of the program. All EHR information will be deidentified.
All of Us will ask you to answer some health surveys. These are on the Participant Portal. Use your computer, tablet or smartphone to answer the surveys at your convenience. Your name will never be on these. Your answers will help build a wealth of knowledge for the All of Us Research Program database. Approved researchers can use this database to do their studies.
5. Have Your Measurements Taken
Once you have completed all the previous steps, you will be invited to schedule an in-person visit with one of our research coordinators. This visit is free and you do not get billed to your health insurance. On this visit, we may measure your height, weight and blood pressure. We may also ask you to give blood, urine or saliva samples. You can choose an enrollment clinic location close to you.
See "Where can I complete my in-person visit?" section below. Participants who complete all of these steps will receive a $25 gift card.

The Essentia research team frequently engages with the community at local events. We also host a special event for participants once a year. We will send you an invitation to these special events if they are in your area.
How can I share the All of Us Research Program with others?
Participants are partners in All of Us. Together, we aim to build one of the largest health databases of its kind. By simply sharing All of Us with your friends and family, and encouraging them to participate, you are helping to speed up health research. If you would like to have some All of Us materials of your own to share with friends, please contact our engagement team at [email protected].
We have an active local advisory council that meets throughout the year. The Advisory Council provides feedback and ideas to the Essentia Health All of Us Research Program team, ensuring local program implementation reflects participants' diverse needs, preferences, and priorities. If you are a participant in the All of Us Research Program and interested in being apart of the Advisory Council, please email [email protected].
