James Ryan, MD

Dr. Jim Ryan began working at Essentia Health - Moose Lake and Sandstone in February 2024.

Dr. Ryan grew up in Detroit, Michigan and St. Paul, Minnesota and graduated from college at the University of Minnesota. He then went on to graduate with honors from the University of Minnesota Medical School. Dr. Ryan then completed a five-year residency training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota where he was trained in general surgery and endoscopy (including colonoscopy and upper endoscopy).

Dr. Ryan is certified by the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Ryan has lived in the Moose Lake area since 2002. He previously worked at Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake between 2002 and 2005. Since his arrival to the area in 2002 he has raised his children here and coached youth sports (hockey and baseball) for many years.

Since Dr. Ryan has started working again in the area his practice now is centered around endoscopic care [e.g. colonoscopy and esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)] as well as advanced wound care where he plans to see patients in Wound Clinic as well as bring wound care capabilities directly to local long-term care facilities.
