Overview
Our surgeons perform common and complex surgical procedures and use minimally invasive techniques whenever they can. They will care for you before, during and after your procedure to ensure you have the best possible outcome.
Outpatient Surgery
In many cases, you’ll return home the day of surgery. Your procedure may even take place in an Essentia outpatient surgery center. There, you’ll save time and money while experiencing the same quality of care you’d expect at a hospital.
Minimally Invasive Surgery
Whenever possible, your Essentia surgeon will take a less-invasive approach that uses only small incisions. You’ll recover faster with less pain and scarring.
Robotic Surgery
Depending on your procedure, your surgeon may use the aid of the da Vinci Xi® surgical robot. This technology moves more precisely and steadily than human hands. It is sometimes used for abdominal, colorectal, gynecologic, and urologic treatments. You’ll find robotic surgical systems in Duluth, Brainerd, and Virginia, Minnesota and Fargo, North Dakota.
Pain Control & Sedation
Before surgery, you’ll meet with an anesthesiologist or certified registered nurse anesthetist. Rely on your anesthesiology team for safe, effective, pain control and sedation during your surgery or medical procedure.
Dedicated Hospital Doctors
If you stay in the hospital after surgery, you may receive care from a hospitalist—a doctor who cares for hospitalized patients.
Surgical ICU
You most likely won’t need intensive care following surgery. But, take comfort in knowing you’ll receive 24/7 monitoring if you stay in the surgical intensive care unit at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota, or Essentia Health-Fargo hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.
Rehabilitation
After some procedures, rehabilitation helps you regain strength or better use the part of your body the surgeon treated. We’ll refer you to the best type of rehabilitation for you.
